SYSTEM SCIENTIST

SUMMARY:

The system scientist is expected to understand the detailed system operation of the LTPS crystallization tool. This is a multidisciplinary system, with optics, stage, laser, metrology, electronics and software control, and the successful candidate will display the ability to work across multi-disciplinary boundaries to understand the complex interactions and ensure successful operation of the tool. The system scientist will be able to define critical experiments and interpret data to identify the performance of the tool, as well as clarifying the interactions between the optical performance and process results obtained during customer experiments. The system scientist will work closely with the extended development team to define the system architecture. In addition, the system scientist will interact with customers in helping to optimize the tool performance and integrate the tool into the particular display processes used by each customer.

Day to day responsibilities will include planning and execution of experiments, gathering and interpretation of experimental data, advising management on technical aspects of system performance and operation, and providing technical recommendations on problem solution paths as well as new opportunities. The system scientist is also expected to provide guidance as to key system design features for new tools, and will work closely with Marketing & Development teams to define the requirements for next generation products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Lead the planning and execution of design validation testing of new systems. Provide technical feedback to design teams regarding performance of sub-systems and modules. Work closely with rest of the Applications team to improve understanding of the LTPS crystallization process and optimize the performance of the TCZ system.
  • Support technical discussions with customers to define detailed specifications of the product.
  • Serve as resource for transition of process and optical test methods and processes to manufacturing. Work closely with customers during delivery of new tools to ensure successful installation and acceptance testing.
  • Act as technical leader for product development teams, responsible for leading investigations of system issues, and for troubleshooting cross-functional technical issues. Respond to questions regarding detailed specifications and performance of the system.
  • Provide technical guidance and support definition and system design of next generation tools. Work closely with marketing to define the product needs, and with development teams in creating optimum technical approach for future products.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong theoretical and experimental background in lasers, laser applications, optics, optical metrology and other similar technologies. Experience with other display industry or semiconductor industry capital equipment design and development, including stage and robot handlers, would be very helpful.
  • Strong background in use of scientific methodologies. Expertise in advanced data acquisition and analysis tools preferred (e.g. Labview, Matlab, etc.)
  • Experience in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in scientific and non-scientific venues, providing the ability to clearly present technical status of projects internally and to customers.
  • Track record of proposing and validating innovative solutions to technical problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Sciences, or related discipline.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in a related technical field. Five (5) years preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Fluent in speaking, reading and writing in English; additional languages (Korean, Mandarin, Japanese) would be helpful. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Must have strong ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
